SANTANA EST. 1935
HISTORY

1941-1944 - George Brent Sailing into Hollywood with style...

George Brent was an actor and responsible for introducing Santana to
movie society where she became the belle of the Hollywood fleet for the next 16 years. Brent was responsible for converting Santana into a yawl. When he consulted with S & S about the project they suggested he increase the length of the mast six or eight feet for greater efficiency in light weather. Because of the cost he decided not to build a new mast and the original mast was moved forward and the mizzen was added. This decision was fortuitous as when the time came 58 years later to convert the boat back into a schooner, it allowed the main mast to be used.

As an actor, Brent featured in many "women’s movies", where most of the time all that could be seen of George was the back of his neck, the screen more focused on whom he was kissing - not bad work if you can get it and it affords you a nice boat. Some of the women kissed by Brent included Kay Francis, Barbara Stanwyck, Myrna Loy, Ann Sheridan and Bette Davis, with whom he appeared in 11 movies including Jezebel (1938) and Dark Victory (1939).
