| Sparkman and Stephens design number 59, Santana, easily fulfills this praise. Any yacht designed by S & S also carries a reputation of being extraordinarily well built due to the attention to detail that Sparkman and Stephens themselves put into their design drawings. Santana’s original drawings and construction specifications were sought out prior to her refit. Fortunately many of S & S’s original designs are kept in storage in a museum, including those of the 1934 design for Santana, drawn on paper that was in final stages of deterioration! Carefully made copies were invaluable in Santana’s restoration. The new foremast, leaded glass doors and many other details were recreated exactly to the original plans. |
